spoke out consistently and publicly (e.g. in articles or in class) against, for example, transgender orthodoxy, they wouldn't eventually be fired at most universities? Remember the whole Yale Halloween costume fiasco five years ago? A respected professor and his wife were forced to resign from a position just for advocating for free speech basically. He is still a professor there but I have no doubt he would no longer be there if he had forced other issues instead. And I believe things have largely gotten worse in the last five years.
Yes you might be able to get away with private conversations on these topics with selected students and other faculty. But good luck teaching anything against accepted orthodoxy in class that is in the wrong direction (i.e. more traditional viewpoints). Most professors lean heavily left and also like their jobs so you won't see anyone doing this. At most, you'll see professors advocating for free speech but even that can be risky as the Yale example shows.
