Several uber wealthy donors in our stake failed to persuade admissions last year
This could have been a mistake, but my guess is still somebody torpedoed the applicant with a bad endorsement/recommendation. Seminary, teacher, or optional reference.

I sincerely hope they don't start using the essays and recommendations as the primary factor in admissions.
