He now knows what's involved in the process; he obviously has suspicions
about this person if he/she is the last person from whom he'd want a reference. It may not be the seminary teacher but he learned he needs to prep the seminary teacher, irrespective of who it is. Thus, he has learned a lot through the process. If you want to argue he doesn't have mathematical certainty and confidence he/she is the culprit. You're correct, but his knowledge of the process should help him in the future.
