Because many argue that mothers are limited in the kinds of jobs they can have, so they turn to education because it works for their schedule, and they consequently accept being underpaid. It doesn't change the fact that they are, in fact, underpaid.

I'm not even much into feminist rhetoric, but this makes pretty good sense. In any case, whether it's because it's primarily a female career or not, there's no doubt that education is underpaid in America compared to many other countries. So pure capitalism isn't really always good at establishing wages.
