Why do they go into it, or stay there, for that matter, knowing they’re
underpaid? If they can get a better job with their degree, why don’t they do it? I know a number of teachers myself who gladly accept the tradeoff of good benefits including a pension, a long summer vacation and doing something they enjoy for slightly lower wages. If they were truly underpaid, no qualified person would do it.
