He is in charge and he should be. It sounds like the recruiting trip was simila

r to the 2017 season.  An epic failure.  Was Kalani in charge of the 2017 football team?

At work I am responsible for my teams performance.  I don't do every minute detail, but I am perfectly capable of making sure that the plan is good and that we are mostly proceeding according to that plan.

Kalani is the head football coach.  This recruiting even is (or should have been) one the most important events on his work calender since the end of spring practice.  For an event this important, I can garuntee that I am going over everything to make sure that at the very least the presentation isn't bad enough to be an epic failure and make a long time customer and supporter switch to a rival competitor.

Kalani either didn't bother, or was so bad at it that the mess received his approval.  I'm not sure which is worse.

While thrid hand reports of recruiting events should always be taken with a grain of salt, if they are remotely true, there is a huge problem.
