you're trying to give the benefit of the doubt to the coaches aren't you? It is true that my bias is toward the kids over the coaches and the program, it didn't used to be that way but my experience has changed my outlook so I won't pretend otherwise. But if you truly believe that BYU and the coaches are doing everything right then I think you're delusional. No I do not think they are dishonest or unethical and don't want anyone to think I am accusing them of that, but incompetent may not be to strong a word for some of these instances.
Its a tough thing to be employed in competitive sports and it is so easy to lose your job that it is easy to justify doing things that maybe aren't always the right thing to do.
This paragraph from the O.P. is particularly bothersome.
"Imagine guys coming in day one, having given up offers to other schools, and being asked to greyshirt day one, followed by a red shirt? Imagine RMs returning to a program, on schedule, and being told there is no place for them - I know of at least 3. What about the walkons who gave up offers to other schools who are now being told there is no place for them - I know of at least 5."
Those are things, if true, that have really screwed up the lives and plans of some kids who deserved some better treatment.
