In contrast to Spencer's "good cop." I actually like the chemistry between them, it's useful and mostly entertaining and at least informative.
I take what JJ says and what he appeals for pretty much with a grain of salt, knowing that he makes valid points sometimes and also represents a minority of our fanbase in this regard. It's entertainment, people. Sitake and Holmoe don't kowtow to him as an expert on anything, he's just a media figure. Don't give him more actual clout than he's worth.
I disagree with him on this one. I have no problem playing 5-7 P5's a year. That's what we would be doing — or more — if we were actually in a P5 conference. If we want to be perceived as a P5-level program, we have to put out the perception that we're more P5 than G5 as an independent, and I think we do more often than not these days. Not being afraid to schedule these games is one of the ways to do that, win or lose.
Beating up on a predominantly weak schedule with 1 or 2 prominent P5 wins to get to 11 or 12 like the Boises, Hawaiis, and UNI's of the world have done in the past to garner national attention and get into a "BCS" bowl has been nice, but makes for predominantly boring Saturdays when you're beating up on teams you're supposed to beat.
GO COUGS.
