The narrative BYU created was just as much "we persevered by putting together a schedule when everyone initially backed out and played and beat that schedule" as much as it was that we had an awesome quarterback and most of the teams we played were relatively weak. That's what got us noticed nationally in the first place, especially when most of the P5s weren't hogging the spotlight like they usually do in September and October.
In other words, if we had played this past year's schedule in a regular season, we would not have had nearly the celebrity we garnered by just persevering when everyone else was jumping off the bridge during the first half of the season. Even despite how great Zach and the offense were.
GO COUGS.
