My rationale for 24 is the average offense in college football scores 27 points

Per game. Since our defense is not great at getting off the field I am spotting the offense 3 points or one possession. The average possessions for college football is 12 per game and we average 11-12.

IMHO I feel like 24 points is a low bar. If your offense can’t consistently score 24 points you just aren’t going to win very many games.
