I don’t really like this argument because when you simplify it you essentially
Say “the defense is bad, and the only reason our offense is bad is because the defense is bad.”
It really doesn’t seem fair to put that much pressure on the defense.
And shouldn’t it go both ways? For example, during the Utah st game, the defense was on the field for a long drive and instead of helping the defense out by letting them rest the offense goes 3 and out on 3 possessions in a row so the defense had no time to make any meaningful adjustments or get any rest.
Personally, I think each side should judged independently of each other whenever possible.
