1) Utah’s ratings tank when they are bad, and Utah is a very very small market.
2) Why arbitrarily pick the last 20 years? If you go back 30 or 40 years they would be last among the four.
3) The Big 12 doesn’t care about AAU
4) Again, Utah’s fans are notoriously fair weather. And the program will be nothing again once Whittingham is gone. No one else will be able to recruit like him in Utah.
5) Being less than an hour away from another big program in a state with 3 million people is not a benefit.
I feel like the key factor that you aren’t calculating is that Utah is at their peak right now. It is all downhill from here. This is the High water mark. They are stuck in a small state that has no large national following.
