Edwards was fan friendly - Bronco is not
Bronco is his own worst PR nightmare. He has improved, but seems to be rather good at alienating the fan base. As he becomes less insecure about criticism, and less apt to label groups of fans as "uneducated" or "Pharisees," (and actually works to prepare his teams for big bowl games instead of the "less is more" approach, with a pre-game announcement that BYU's season was successful win or lose the game vs. a rookie first time ever HC) he will receive more of the praise.

Bronco deserves a lot of praise. He also deserves a lot of the criticism he has received. I think it's okay to complain about the HC when he creates a QB controversy, consistently punts from his opponent's 30, allows a guy like Nelson to run the team and divide the locker room merely because he has "grit", or fields a team for the last bowl game that was so undisciplined and unprepared it had ESPN commentators laughing. Bronco has many strengths, and clearly loves his players. That says a lot for him. He is not flawless (as some on CB tend to believe). I do not boo Bronco, but have scratched my head a lot at his decisions.

Edwards would take fan comments/criticism in stride. He even fielded fan calls live in the post game show. Bronco would never do that. Bronco does not really embrace the fans. He seems to tolerate them, seeing them as a necessary evil. I am speaking of the fan base as a whole. The firesides are a great way to reach out to fans. But in some of his post game interviews, Bronco has laid some eggs. I recall the last BYU/OSU game in Corvallis, OR. The BYU fans were louder than the OSU fans. It was incredible. I thought Bronco would give some props to the BYU fan base. Instead, all he did was talk about how great the OSU fans were. It was just strange. Wrubell threw him a big, huge softball and Bronco didn't even swing. I think Bronco is slowing coming around, but I think a lot of people grow weary of the chip he carries on his shoulder publicly.
