I think the discussion was spurred by Porter's father going on the radio
to tell the story of how Porter wanted BYU (and would have committed on the spot) and recruited himself to BYU, except that BYU did not offer him a scholarship despite his athletic gifts. There was clearly an agenda by his father for telling that story. The only conclusion we can draw from that story is that the BYU coaches and the fact that the scholarship offer never came was that Porter was not deemed a BYU fit by the coaches.

If the initial story was never told by Porter's father, it wouldn't be a hot topic
