Expansion & BYU being difficult to deal with (anecdotal 1st hand experience)
(forewarning this is generalizing BYU and BYU fans with being mormon, which we know is not the case for many of us outside of Utah)

Although not apples to apples I'll share my experience in dealing with mormons in the workplace. I'm in the medical field and do business all over the country, I've worked w/& around many many mormons and have a couple I consider good friends(non-sporty types) so I'm not a hater by any means! The mormons i've worked directly with have been hard working, honest and very dependable. They've been very professional and no-nonsense types that get the job done & as an employer many times i've given a mormon interviewing preferential treatment b/c of it. But b/c of some of the workplace environment factors I've also not hired people b/c they were mormon & let me explain why...

When they get done seeing patients or done with a out of town conference etc many often times disappear from the group. They dont go out with us & at first I thought it was just b/c they were scared to be around alcohol but so many won't go even if the after work event is at a nice restaurant w/o a bar. Listen I'm a BYU guy to the Core, I bleed blue so i know the "culture" of why they aren't coming out and i'm not saying they have to or need to...BUT the problem at large and what makes the "hard to deal with" label a reality to MANY of us outside of Utah is many BYU grads seem to care less about office or employee chemistry. They come across as snobby at times because they won't attend any of the events even family events. They at times try to hi-jack an event to a low brow family chain restaurant & $'s not a problem. I've heard countless number of colleagues grumble about so-and-so being a jerk, or snobby etc. The fact of the matter many of us in the professional world have had some of these negative experiences with mormons when they are part of a team, a group, a firm, a practice etc. And although many times they are putting "family first" it comes across as being difficult to work with...sadly it really does. This is just one small layer of years of micro-experiences.
