Whatever your justifiable logic and reasons are, your disdain nearing contempt for the people and situations you describe is likely why some conclude we're snobbish or whatever. I agree w/ your reasons and logic mostly and did the same the first few years of my career.

I've settled into a happy middle ground where I can socialize and mostly enjoy the social situations where alcohol is present. I rarely see anything beyond social drinking and a buzz, flat out drunk and belligerent, vulgar is definitely a rarity. It could be our definition differs. I'm not just being polite when I say I fully get your viewpoint, but I do wonder how quickly you wrote off these social gatherings before really seeing whats going on. Financial industry or other professionals might be less apt to get their full swerve on than some industries, but I haven't seen what you describe. Its one of those things where, to a degree, both sides are right.
