Most of the states east of Colorado have a lot of land that is run by the state. the federal government is not running those lands, the states are. those states actually generate positive cash flow by managing those lands. The BLM and Forset Service on the other hand lose money on everything they manage. It just makes economic sense to have the states manage the land instead of the BLM or Forest Service. The federal government doesn't compensate the state for our inability to generate cash flow to run the state due to their control of so much land.
