When BYU tells applicants the expectations and average scores for admission, the vast majority of BYU hopefuls self select against applying. BYU rejects most applicants that thiight they have a chance.
BYU is very selective. How many schools will accept a kid with a 29 ACT, and 3.8 GPA with a job and extra carriculars? That is about the true low end for BYU last I heard. A higher ACT means more than the GPA, but a 3.6 would likely be impossible to overcome. I base this not on my son and other kids I know who were rejected.
