the fact they tend to be a money drain and so they are very selective with how they do it. But the whole private high school thing wouldn't make much sense outside of the intermountain west, and would be a big infrastructure drain. They would have to let in all kinds of non-LDS kids, which could be a very good thing, but could also cause them to make other compromises in education that they are not really willing to do.
