Toyota Camrys, 4Runners, Tacomas, etc die in 8 yrs?
I don’t think so. And for the popular vehicles (4Runner, Tacoma, Ridgeline, etc) they hold their value extremely well with need for a huge overall to the engine (battery replacement equivalent).

Lack of maintenance is another bonus I’m not sure what Ford’s EV maintenance is

The plug in hybrids are appealing to me

The knock on plug-in hybrids is having the complexity of two drive systems.

Toyota has been doing hybrids for a long time now starting with the Prius. It’s mature, solid tech.

What are you using the car for?

The problem for me is that it becomes more or less a single purpose car

I've done 7 hour road trips twice in the Model 3 and that's about the limit

Do a full cost/benefit analysis. Being cool isn't the same as being smart

Time to charge is a real thing but the cost to install a charger is meaningless

I guess it depends on your use. For me it makes a lot of sense and I can't wait

Wow I wonder what the AC would do driving from AZ tonSan Diego in the middle of

I didn’t see nearly the same drop with AC but did see a 10% reduction in miles

The batteries in a Tesla are significantly more efficient when it is warm- seems weird but it is true.

Yea to be fair I didn’t really understand the benefit/requirement of preheating

How long does that take if it's really cold outside?
byujacob
1/24/22 1:03pm
I don't know, it is never really cold in AZ. I just set mine to be ready to go by 6:30 a.m. when I leave for work

I'm saving about $160 a month on gas costs by charging at home. I'll recover the costs on the charger in

I bought my 3 because I liked the car overall. Not sure the savings pencils out.

That leaf's savings will also disappear with depreciation those don't hold value
franklyvulgar

Unless you buy one that is mostly depreciated already
FatThor

Depreciation isn't normal on cars right now though. You could take possession of a new Tesla and turn around and sell

Depreciation was less than average on Teslas pre-COVID anyway. Battery loss...

8 years or 100k whatever comes first. And yes real life expectancy is looking closer to 300k or 400k.

Battery life is not a concern of mine as a Tesla 3 owner.
