... as a strong safety. He was far more athletically gifted than me, but one of my favorite moments was when we were playing two-on-two basketball with another companionship, and he and I were on different teams. We'd been butting heads recently as a companionship and I guess he decided to work out some issues by trying to drive on me. He was 5'10" (graciously) and I was/am 6'3". I rejected him 3 straight times as he got more and more angry. Each time I called a foul on myself due to body contact--I was going straight up so it wasn't really a foul, but I kinda felt bad. I wasn't beating him on athleticism, I just have freakishly long arms for my height and he couldn't shoot over me. He kept getting the ball back and denying that I fouled him, so we just played on. Finally on the third shot he took the foul call and inbounded it instead of trying to shoot over me again.
That was the one and only time I beat him at anything athletic. He was extremely fit, extremely strong, and very talented, but I was pleased with myself that day.
