Yes if you look at the overall 7 years they have been ‘middling’. But even during down years we have games like Stanford game, beating a top 10 team on the last play at home. Certainly beats losing to U Mass at home. And 3 short years ago we were in the top 10 near midseason. Numerous top 25 finishes. And this is just football.

Fact: It takes time for a former MWC school to build up recruiting and get sustained success. You throw out those first 3 years. TCU has been awesome, as a biased Ute fan I can say they have had much more success, obviously. But those first 3 years they almost fired coach P. Why? There’s a transition period. People who watch sports understand this...Fans who of rival teams who have bad years and need an outlet for their frustrations and don’t understand sports as well don’t get this.

Fact: Overall recruiting has gone up since entering a real legit conference. Yes, still middle of the Pac recruiting wise, but I’m not sweating it. If our floor seasons is a season like last yr, I’ll take it. We know we won’t dominate the Pac like we did the MWC, we aren’t insane fans, we follow sports and understand the landscape and our place in it. But we also know we are building something in football and our trajectory arrow is pointing up. And absolutely we can win the Pac, we’ve been knocking, just a QB away a couple years.

Fact: Sure two out of 7 NCAA tourney runs is bad. But look at the Coach K years and his run. RECENTLY, 2 out of 3 tourney runs, a sweet 16 spot and a close lost to a Duke team that ended up winning it all, and 3 straight NBA first round draft picks (all left as underclassmen) including two lottery picks. Sure sounds like an ascendent program to me. Even in a down year, and a year where we clearly have less talent than the Cougs, we are in the running a tourney seed.

Intrepret how you may. But my analytical skills tell me I’ll take Utah’s so called mediocrity in the Pac a million times over compared to what is happening down South.

But then again, I could be wrong 🙂
