I think you mis-interpret a lot of discussion on here when high school LDS
athletes are discussed. BYU's recruiting pool is much shallower than most other schools. In addition to being a tough place academically, you have to live the honor code and live in an LDS culture. With HS LDS athletes, you assume they aren't going to have a problem with the last two items I mentioned. And yes, when a top LDS athlete chooses another school, it's disappointing because our recruiting pool is shallower than other schools.

There is a school for deaf students about 35 miles away from me. A few years ago there was a really good deaf basketball player who visited the school and considered going there. I person I know who works at the school told me they were disappointed when the student chose not to enroll. Just like BYU, they have a very shallow pool of students to pull from. Just like us, they were excited about possibly landing a premiere athlete to help their school. And just like BYU, it was disappointing when he chose to go somewhere else.

Finally, rivals talk smack about each other. Yes, some on here take it to absurd levels, but generally what I see posted here falls into the type of smack you typically see between fans of rival teams.
