When he comes on to the most popular fan board for a school he is considering, and all he sees are the fans trash talking the school’s choices, the coaching staff, or other eligible athletes who choose to go in a different direction.
Rivalry smack is a given and fun to engage in, but as BYU football and basketball have experienced a downturn recently, CB has grown increasingly negative towards their own programs. It’s like you all love BYU...but you also hate BYU. You are doing your rival’s job for them, and they know it and really get a kick out of it.
Think about it. Let’s say a prospective LDS athlete from back east is considering BYU and decides to do a bit more research about the school. He finds CB, and starts reading, only to learn that all the fans are calling for the coachs’ heads. It makes the coach and the program look like they are on thin ice. Who, in their right mind, would jump on board a seemingly sinking ship?!?
CB feels like a big billboard advertising why not to come to BYU. All programs experience down times, and I am sure that all fans get frustrated, but when you come here and all that is being discussed is “who could replace Rose,” or, “who will replace Kalani,” it is offputting. Sadly these kinds of discussions end up as POTD.
I have a lot of former BYU football player friends and contacts. Many of them advise potential players with opportunities to go to big time schools to take them over BYU. Part of their reason is the attitude of the fans.
