You are comping a HOF QB to bench players in the NBA?
Of course people know who Steve Young is and is Mormon. Same with Ainge. Just like they do with Bryce Harper.
It is up to the person and how they portray themself. It also matters who they are. Daniel Sorensen is fantastic, but do people care he is LDS? Maybe some, but not the same as if he were all pro. I have heard many people and former players speak about Eric Weddle being a Mormon. Manti Teo was mentioned as a member often, prior to his non-existent GF.
What I am saying is, if you are big time and let people know you are LDS it has the same impact. If Steve Young went to ND, he would have been a household name in college, if he had the same pro career people would know him the same and if he was active in firesides and promoted the church I see little difference.
Now days LDS athletes may draw more attention to the church elsewhere. What if Jimmer was an RM playing at Duke? People know Jimmer, but don’t care or think of the church due to this.
