They don't have the same average credentials as those schools, it's not even
close. The person above mentioned Harvard, Yale, and Stanford.
BYU's average ACT range and GPA is 27-32 and 3.8.
Harvard is 32-35 and 4.04.
Stanford is 32-35 and 4.14.
Yale is 32-35 and 3.95.
They are not even close.
You also asked about other outside sources. The Wall Street Journal just ranked Utah ahead of BYU (not sure if it was undergrad or institution). Times Higher Education, QS, CWUR, ARWU, even U.S. News rank Utah ahead of BYU as an institution (and usually it's not very close)
