I know precisely what I’m talking about. AAU wants to be exclusive so they set rules that create a barrier to entry. Rules that THEY feel are important. Rules that reinforce their values while ignoring others.
I’m not saying it’s bad, it just isn’t the definition of a great education. It’s educational elitism.
Every field has its form of elitism. Even my field. And I’m not above admitting that the initials we put after our names are a form of elitism. But it doesn’t make one better than another.
AAU membership does not make one institution any better than another. Does not mean you will be considered a better person for attending or graduating. Although frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if some diplomas have the AAU insignia on them.
People join clubs. Big deal.
Heck, BYU’s coaches circle is a similar form of elitism but it is really just all about money.
