Believe it or not, I actually do root for BYU to do well. Maybe it gives me a slightly different perspective, but I can't be the only one in Utah who's had allegiances tying me to both schools.
I grew up with a Dad who was a Utah alumnus and rooted as a kid for Utah. My brother rooted for BYU and we attended most of the rivalry games together.
When I got older, I went to college at BYU (better undergrad education than Utah) and attended games there regularly, rooting for BYU. A few years after graduation, while doing grad school in Ohio I met and married my wife who graduated from BYU. (Interestingly my brother married a Utah grad)
Given all this, I have loyalties to both programs, which is why I look at the data. On this board, that sometimes makes me come off as anti-BYU because I'm not a crazy homer, but trust me that I want BYU to do well. Even on a recent family vacation, we all made time to turn on the CCU game and root for BYU. Frankly, I think things are a lot more interesting when BYU and Utah are evenly matched, and that hasn't been the case for a while now. I'd like to see BYU improve and believe they could if given the opportunity.
As to Texas and Nebraska being lower-tier in certain years, I just broke it into teams that lost more games against P5 opponents than they won. If they won more, they were a good team. If they lost more, they weren't as good that year. That's why a team like Utah makes multiple appearances on both lists. They're not inherently good or bad, but some years they're good, some years they aren't.
