I think it's the opposite.
BYU fans make way too much of Utah's two early season losses and ignore how much value CFB places on the eye test and recency bias.

Utah wasn't just beating teams. They were dismantling schools like UCLA and Stanford. Both of whom had beaten SEC schools.

I think the Utah story was more about a school that lost its star RB and was trying to find identity with several freshmen starters and new QBs.

You'll see the difference in perception there. Now that Utah returns strong talent at each skill position, Utah will likely start off in the top 7-8 next year.

Also, it wasn't just that Utah beat Oregon. It was the timing, the number of people watching, the style they won and a fitting retribution for Herbert and the Ducks blocking a terrific Utah team in 2019.

CFB knows the top 4-5 blue bloods stockpile the talent. TBH, very few teams can even compete with them. When a school like Oregon beats tOSU in Columbus, something BIG teams haven't done since before Trump, it validates the program as having a playoff capable team.

That was the hesitancy with Cincy all season. Now you can see why.
