I was towed twice in three years.
The first, I was towed from a stake center parking lot. I had attended an afternoon stake conference. My sister lived across the street, so I left my car in the parking lot and went over to visit and have dinner. When I came back out at midnight my car had been towed. I didn't get home until 2:00 or so. The Church's facility management team was sympathetic, but there wasn't anything I could do short of going to small claims.

The second time was my wife-then girlfriend. She met me at work (I taught at Kaplan at the strip mall just west of LES) at about 9:00 o'clock, parked her car, and we walked over to get ice cream at sub zero. When we walked back to where her car was parked it was gone. I drove her over to the place, waited over an hour with her while the manager drove back to the garage, and then proceeded to berate the manager.

I asked him why she was towed. He said "Someone called in her car and said they saw her leave the mall."

I showed him our receipt. He said "Well, someone saw you guys leave the mall."

I told him that we had to wait over an hour and that the law required him to meet us there within a reasonable amount of time. He said "The law only requires us to be there within an hour."

I told him he better release her car or we'd go to court, get them fined $500 for improper towing, and seek any damages that she could get. He said "Well, I don't think you guys are necessarily right, but I'm going to go ahead and release the car without any charge. Not because you're right, but because I'm going to do the right thing."

I wanted to rip his head off. My HCBGF was pleased.

We got married.

But I'm still angry about it all.
