Let's look at some facts
After all of the chatter about "piggy-backing" I decided to do a little research. So I went to Rivals.com and decided to look at all of the players that have received offers from BYU and who have received offers from Utah. If you take a close look at the numbers I think you can understand both sides of the argument.

BYU fans claim that Utah offers all of the same recruits, while Utah claims the opposite.

Here is how it breaks down. According to Rivals, BYU has made a total of 35 offers. Of those 15 have also been offerd by Utah. For the math-challenged among us that is 43% that hold offers from both schools. Utah, having a much larger recuiring pool and not needing to be as selective due to honor code and enrollment requirement, has offered 131 players. Those 14 who hold offers from both school represent under 11% of the Utah offers. By comparison, Washington has offered over 50 of the same players that Utah has.

Of those 15 offers, 2 have committed to other schools (Bateman and Combs), 2 have committed to BYU (Shumway and Peoples), 2 have committed to Utah (Fakailoatonga and Tanoai), and 9 are undecided (Tevi, Masina, Barton, Ortiz, Pagano, Lotulelei, Peko, Flowers and Handley). Handley isn't actually listed as having an offer yet, even though the Utah page has a story about him receiving an offer. I was a little srprised that they also failed to show Flowers as holding a Utah offer, even that appears to be fairly common knowledge.

Conclusions...I can understand why BYU fans feel as though the Ute are constantly after their players, but largely that is because BYU's recruiting pool is so small. At the same time, BYU fans who think that Utah's sole recruitng strategy is to follow BYU coaches around need to re-think that course.
