There will always been annoying fans in any major university's fanbase especially when BYU has been good in just about every sport for a very long time. Bigger fanbase=more chances of jerks. We have our share. But we also have some passion which is awesome and adds to the excitement of basketball. Lets get real for a moment: who wants Stanford fanbase? AmIRite?

For the record SMC has an exceptional basketball coach and high quality talent. Its not like we lost to a bad team. Bennet is one of the best coaches in all of the NCAA. Mark Few is the same: outstanding coach. There is talent at SMC that might not be consistently NBA talent but dang good. Meanwhile, we went through some coaches who couldn't get talent here consistently. Sure there were some bright spots but nothing like Bennet and Few.

To the point where other fanbases, including you and yours complain about BYU's program or fanbase. When we have an expectation for greatness and our team doesnt live up to that take it as a positive. You can play the programs who dont give a rat's pitute about what happens, but do you really want that? Seriously? If I were in your position I would be grateful for my team playing a passionate fanbase's team and winning. The last thing I want to do in denegrade that fanbase. Just beat them and go home happy. Its what we have done to Texas in football.

All of that being said, I am glad we are moving on. Even in our best years, beating SMC did nothing for us. Thats the reality. Beating SMC may have meant something to you or some other bitter fan but frankly did nothing to improve the stature of BYU. Only in beating Gonzaga did the team ever get any "props". You can take that as arrogant (not meant to be in the least) or you can take it as reality. SMC doesnt have the program or stature of Gonzaga, so you can go back to being their little brother and rail against their team.

Another dose of reality: except for Wyoming and Utah, there never has been a consistent denigrating of our LDS religion than by supposedly Christian institutions that was so disgusting and out of line than what SMC, Gonzaga, and Pepperdine as a fanbase did to BYU and their fans. So yeah, I dont care about your whining. There was enough disgusting behavior to last me a lifetime.
