I’m fine with St Mary’s and Gonzaga. I’m fine with Randy Bennett. But…
I was never really 100% comfortable as a BYU fan in the WCC.
Put yourself in our shoes for a minute. Our arch rival, Utah got invited to the PAC-12 and we didn’t. We got left out of the party. Even though we deserved it for so many decades. We even got somewhat close after Ty Detmer won the Heisman. But still, we got punked hard. And it hurt.
So yeah, the WCC did feel like a gut punch to us when we watched our brother, who we had been on equal footing with for a century, get called up to the big leagues.
The funny thing is, Gonzaga and St Mary’s are better basketball schools than most of the PAC-12 schools. We all loved when Gonzaga beat Utah in the tourney and when St Mary’s beat Utah in the NIT.
So it’s nothing personal. We all get that you guys are legit. But the thing is, we are too. And now were excited to finally have a seat at the table in the Big 12. But it was never about you. It has been, and always will be…about Utah 😈
