You make an important point that I try to remind of. BIG EAST offered.

I sincerely believe that many, many people state that BYU had a chance to join the Big 12 because they mis-remember the Big East invitation. Also, many people lamented (at the time) that BYU turned down Big East invite.

It was a lot of chaos. I wish BYU was simply in a better conference, but I think it is unfair to say BYU blew its chances.
