I think this is what a lot of people ignore, BYU and the MWC did not get along
Craig Thompson seemed to be unwilling to try to help BYU at all; such as refusing to even try to help BYU broadcast games not picked up by CBS/Comcast/The Mtn. I can't recall off the top of my head, but I do recall there were other issues where BYU had concerns and The Hair refused to try and help, or even admit those issues existed.
Once Utah was gone, I don't think BYU even say remaining in the MWC as an option based on their relationship with the MWC front office.
