I agree that engineers are undervalued and underpaid in our society.
But I can only blame the engineers for letting the business folks insert themselves above them. The problem is related to supply and demand, but it is more complicated than that. Engineers, for whatever reason, aren't considered "professionals" - i.e., a self-regulated certifying body. Sure, there are PE's, but that isn't "required" to be a practicing engineer, as it is for doctors, lawyers, and CPA's. Why? I'm not sure.

I studied engineering undergrad and if I could have made more money in engineering, I would be doing it today.
