There is likely more prestige by being a G5 playoff contender
at least compared to independent BYU. As independent, we are not part of the Power club and we do get the benefit by association.
The question is, would BYU actually contend for the CFP spot more often than not? If so, than the G5 route is probably a good move. But, if not, a pseudo-power independent is much better than a run-of-the-mill G5 school.

How often is a G5 one of the 8 best teams in the country? It doesn’t make sense unless they go 12 or 16
