fanbase, well I guess recruits are often part of the fanbase. But just the general sense of "meh" that gets worse each year, and it's not due to excessive losing. I see it all around me even when BYU has an avg season or slightly better and gets a bowl game. Adults and especially kids, excitement and emotional connection to BYU slips further each year.
I understand the argument of playing on avg 1-2 more P5 teams per year. The cost, in addition to the fact even those games have very little emotion in them, the Idaho State, Umass, Wagner, Liberty, E Michigan, Portland State back end. A dynamic that crushes what was once a white hot emotional connection to BYU football. And the ESPN contract, a shuffle of ESPN upper management and that could go away like a fart in a hurricane. I see people trying to convince themselves Indy is a great option, but it was never intended to be anything more than temporary. Coaches, admin, and fans who see the direction of things know this. But that's just imo, my take on what extended Indy is doing re; true attachment to BYU football. Once the younger generation now has families, you'll see a real drop-off. And it was completely foreseeable, but granted, no easy answers to fixing it. Fans and admin, forget about Utah, except once a year, it's messing w/ people heads to a weird degree. Do what's best for BYU and remove some of the living in the past ego out of it.
