The shelter in place was only a measure to preserve the health care capacity. It wasn't meant as a quarantine. I think a number of state and county or officials misunderstood the reasoning or based on their local situation health care wise tightened up even more.
There is no reason to continue stay at home once we get past the initial peak. Hospital capacity throughout the country is getting better everyday.
But just letting it rip through the country without any type of interevention was a stupid idea. Death rates would have been much higher and politically and economically unacceptable.
Herbert is pushing to get everyone back to work by May 1st. I think that's very possible. These 6-8 month estimates are just hysterical people on the "let it rip" side of this debate.
