which means they can't go to school, which means that teachers need to teach them effectively online while also teaching others in person, ... which means I need to work from home, which means my colleagues need to work without me, etc. etc. etc.

And we're just one family. It starts to get really, really tough because we are all so entangled in society. As a teacher myself, it's SOOOO much easier to either teach online or teach in person. Doing both at the same time is nuts difficult. So it's much easier for me to have everybody in class, or a stay at home order. It's hard to go halfway.
