I credit Tolkein for getting me into "adult level" fantasy when I was a kid, but
quite frankly, I have zero desire to ever read his stuff again. I don't care for the world or characters he created at all, nor do I care for his writing style. Sanderson is heads and shoulders better to me personally. 95% of what I read is fantasy (with a splash of science fiction every once in a while), and I read every day. He is my favorite author of all time at this point. The universe (the Cosmere as a whole and how everything is connected) he is building is quite frankly mind-blowing to me. His characters resonate with me, his magic systems are beautiful and unique, and the universe is vast and interesting. I don't get any of that with Tolkein.
