Like panguitch said it’s like comparing the Iliad to Gladiator.

Sanderson is a good author. I’ve read almost all of his works, but you can’t compare Tolkien to Sanderson. I would place them in two seperate genres of Classical Fantasy and Modern Fantasy. Both are Fantasy but are sub divided and non comparable even if one borrowed from the others genius.

I agree that Tolkien defined what we would call Classic Fantasy, although it's still fairly recent
