We use gabb phones and are very happy.

They look like smart phones, so the kids aren’t terribly embarrassed, but there’s nothing to do but text and call. We tried using our old iPhones with the kids, but the kids always found ways to get around screen time passcodes, etc. word gets around at school how to hack them. We were certain the screen time passcode was working fine. with the gabb phone there’s just no worry.
