This is how I feel about it too. You can try to teach a 12 year old but their

Minds aren’t ready yet. I taught middle school for 24 years and watched so many well intentioned parents give their kids a smart phone with the idea that they would monitor and teach what is right and what is wrong. The kids’ brains weren’t mature enough to handle it yet and the kids always found a way around the parental restrictions. It was disastrous for so many.
