I have felt a responsibility to teach the proper use of technology inclusive of phones to my kids

Eventually they will have a phone and get to make their own choices. The question is my mind has always been do I do nothing and let them figure it out when they can afford their own phone or do I get them one and help teach them how to use it responsibly?
