Yeah, you're probably right.
Maybe the better advice is this - ask your child how they think the situation should be handled. only follow through if it was the right thing to do and explain why that's the right choice - that way they feel like they are part of the solution and grow though that decision. If they wanted to something that wasn't the most appropriate option for the time, I'd explain to them why it wasn't the best option and offer a better choice.
