Yes, he talks about "starting at zero", but in the next breath talks about pre-existing ratings for opponents. None of these are unbiased computer models as you alleged. They ALL have weighted and ultimately biased inputs. I'm not sure you could create one without some type of bias and if you did results would probably be fairly meaningless.
