There's a disconnect on the Rose Bowls in particular
The BYU side sees both games as blow out disasters that were not only embarrassing but perhaps indicative that Utah / Pac-12 were markedly inferior if not G5 level altogether.
Pollsters and experts see a tough Oregon game and a tough USC CC game where Utah lost key starters and others got dinged up while deeper blue blood-like programs tOSU and PSU rested.
Most would recognize Utah had a RB at corner vs. Stroud, Harrison, Njigbia...and losing by a FG in that scenario — after Rising went down — made Utah look more on par with tOSU than the latter. Since Utah had downed an Oregon team twice that won in Columbus...it's clear, Utah and tOSU with their full starters would've been a fun match.
PSU much different. Utah was already out Kuithe, Thomas, Phillips and Kincaid at kickoff. Two all-americans. Once Rising went down, there was no chance. But a 14-14 halftime score and Utah running the ball at will — not a bad showing.
PSU and tOSU were both rewarded heavily with the win and would also start the next season in the top 5-7. They had a lot to play. Especially Clifford on the cusp of getting drafted — who was phenomenal against Utah.
BYU fans thought the embarrassment would send Utah out of the rankings, pollsters kept Utah about where they were. Rising stays in there and it's probably coming down to the last possession.

Here's what you don't see. The Rose Bowl is just another bowl game tie in for the conf champ. It just so happens
