A better analysis - Take two
Some people seem to be taking this post as an attack on Kyle.
That's not the case. I loved watching Kyle and was thrilled he was a cougar.

That said, I'm not happy with the trend of BYU basketball, and this analysis pointed out a disturbing trend. It's not that Kyle is a bad player, it's that he is an inefficient primary option. Simply put, you cannot win games converting possessions at a 0.8 pts per possession clip. That's what BAD teams do. That's what Pacific and Portland do.

Likewise it is hard to win when one of your top three options converts at a low rate. Look at the historical trend. Listed below is the least efficient player out of the top 3 possession consumers each year for the last 9 years.

2007: 0.92 - Tavernari (#3 - i.e. he was the third highest possession consumer)
2008: 0.99 - Tavernari (#3)
2009: 0.94 - Tavernari (#3)
2010: 0.97 - Davies (#3)
2011: 0.81 - Carlino (#3)
2012: 0.81 - Carlino (#3)
2013: 0.85 - Carlino (#2)
2014: 0.88 - Collinsworth (#2)
2015: 0.82 - Collinsworth (#1)

The last time we were ranked? 2010 - And were ranked every season prior.
The last time we won a conf championship? 2010
The trend that is disturbing is that not only is one of our primary options becoming less efficient, the least efficient player is moving up the list until this year, the least efficient player was also the #1 option.

Converting possessions into points is what the game is about. We need to change the direction of this trend and focus on getting more points out of each possession and not allowing our least efficient player to be the primary option.
