By definition an assist is converting a possession into points.
Your conclusion about KC not being an efficient shooter is spot on---whether FG or FT. I agree he wasn't an efficient shooter himself and took a lot of contested shots, but KC driving into the paint and drawing a double or triple team created a lot of wide open looks for guys like Seljaas, Emery & Fisher. Isn't that one of the reasons their efficiency was as high as it was? A lot of Seljaas' looks this year were wide open on the wings because KC had drawn multiple players to him giving other players great looks.
I just can't comprehend concluding KC wasn't a good 'converter of possessions to points' while ignoring a key offensive metric.
